Trotters 5 Race Report

Sunday 3rd March 2013
Burnden Road Runners hosted the 3rd running of their trail race starting from outside the now closed Smithills Coaching House. Dry and fine weather conditions greeted a tremendous field, with a total of 311 finishers compared to the 201 finishing in 2012.
Salford’s Tarus Elly took the honours, equalling the course record in 27.14, a record held by Bolton’s Mark Tillotson from 2011. Indeed it was Tillotson who took on the pace on the first lap before Elly went past the Bolton man to win by 14 seconds. Lewis Eccleston (Astley & Tyldesley) was over half a minute further back in 3rd place.

Horwich’s Rachel Jones with a new ladies’ course record was a convincing winner in 31.14, with Leigh’s
Angela Allen over a minute back in 2nd place. Joanna Goorney (Wesham) was a further half a minute behind to take 3rd place. All 3 ladies showing the younger runners how it’s done.

This was the second race in the 2013 Central Lancs Grand Prix. 196 of the 311 were running for the 10 clubs in the CLGP, an increase of 59 compared with 2012.
Tillotson, Shay Walker and Ian Selby took the Men’s team prize for Bolton Utd Harriers.  Walker, Selby and Mark Swannell won the Men’s Vets team prize.
Kirsty Normanton, Gwen Kinloch and Lesley Fisher won both the Ladies’ and Ladies’ Vets team prize for the host club.

Thanks go to Sponsors Decathlon, Apt IT Solutions and Up and Running.  These sponsors’ names were printed on the back of the grey technical t-shirts which most of the finishers received, the alternative being a red technical t-shirt. A big thank you again to the Bolton cadets who were in position for a long time again to guide runners around the course.
