Terry Nortley 10 Mile Multi Terrain Race

Sunday 24th February at 11am sees the 2nd running of the "Terry Nortley 10 Mile Multi-Terrain Race"
Online entries via UKResults.net or further details on Radcliffe AC website.

Terry Nortley, Club President of Radcliffe AC died in November 2011.  As a tribute to Terry, Radcliffe AC named their 10 mile multi-terrain race after him.

Terry was a former President of Bolton United Harriers before the formation of Radcliffe AC. He coached to an exceptionally high level from Schoolchildren to Internationals, he will be greatly missed by those that he has coached over a 50 year period and those that new him.
He was one of life's true gentlemen and was always to be found at South East Lancs and Red Rose Cross Country meetings, encouraging people to give their best with his own brand of humour attached to his words.

All the best to those that knew Terry

Radcliffe 10k Race Report

On a cool but sunny spring morning the Radcliffe 10K Multi terrain race set off along Sion Street to take to the Outwood trail, the roads and paths of Ringley and returning to the finish on the Nellie Halstead track via the local canal network. The undulations and several sharp climbs split the field quite quickly but it remained a close and competitive race with 199 finishers.

1st home for Horwich RMI was Gareth Booth M40 in a very credible time of 34.20, he was followed home by his team mate Martyn Bell M40 in 34.38, 3rd place male was Liam Thompson of Leigh Harriers in 34.39. In 14th place was the 1st male Junior Thomas Kneller of Leigh Harriers with an excellent time of 36.46
1st lady home was Louisa Thompson of Leigh Harriers in 38.07, followed by Joanna Goorney L40 of Wesham Road Runners in 40.38, 3rd lady and 1st Junior was Georgina Leck of Leigh Harriers in a great time of 40.57

1st male team of the day was Horwich RMI with Gareth Booth, Martyn Bell, Glyn Kay and Peter Rice finishing in 1st, 2nd, 5th and 13th respectively.
1st ladies team of the day was Leigh Harriers with Louisa Thompson, Georgina Leck and Bethany Jones finishing in 1st, 2nd and 7th respectively.

On a slightly sadder end to the day a male runner from Wigan Phoenix finished the race having experienced chest pains and was taken by ambulance to Bolton Royal Hospital, his family attended the hospital and last night we were told he'd had a slight heart attack and would be remaining in hospital till Wednesday for a series of tests. When his daughter left him yesterday evening he was feeling comfortable and enjoying a Sunday Roast ! Here's hoping he continues to improve, his family wish to send there appreciation to anyone who had any involvement with his care after the race yesterday.

Radcliffe 10k - 15th April 2012

For those that are wondering about footwear for the Radcliffe 10k on Sunday, Road Shoes should be fine, the canal bank could be a bit wet but runnable without problems. The only stretch where you might suffer from a loss of grip is bewtween the two canals where there is a short rough climb.

All the best

Trotters 5 - Sunday 6th March 2012 Report by Chris Greenall

Burnden Road Runners hosted the 2nd race in the CLGP on a cold and wet Sunday morning at Smithills. Gloves and t-shirts under club vests were the order of the day for many as we were reminded that we are still in Winter.  This was the second running of this race. Numbers were up, with 201 finishers compared to 176 in 2011. 137 of these 201 were from clubs competing in the CLGP.

Bolton’s Tom Carson bettered his 2011 time by well over a minute and this helped him to a convincing win after his 3rd place last year. The margin of victory was just as convincing in the Ladies race, with Louisa Thompson of Leigh scoring back to back wins after her recent 5K win at Leverhulme Park, this time from Horwich’s Rachael Thompson.

On the day, Carson,  Shay Walker and Mark Swanell gave Bolton the team prize. Martin Jones, Dave Jackson and Peter Rice gave Horwich the vets prize.  For the ladies, Thompson, Angela Allen and Bethany Jones easily won the team prize for Leigh. Burnden convincingly won the Vets – Kirsty Normanton, Isaline Kneale and Lesley Fisher counted.

For the Grand Prix, Bolton had their first 10 counters in the top 40 to give them a win from Horwich, whose first 6  vets produced a strong showing to win the Vets category from Burnden. Leigh’s first 4 ladies gave them the win from Burnden by the narrowest of margins. Burnden took the B team honours in a close affair from Bolton.

Individual firsts: F35 – Donna Cartwright, F40 – Angela Allen, F45 – Isaline Kneale, F50 – Lesley Fisher, F55 – Eileen Castledine, F60 – Sue Reah (unattached), LJ – Bethany Jones, L17 – Emma Holden.

M40 – Shay Walker, M45 – Peter Rice, M50 – Steve Nolan, M55 - Rudolf Maciejkowicz, M60 – David Burke, M65 – Kevin O’Brien (Clayton-le-Moors), M70 – Malcolm Towler (Northern Vets), MJ – Rob Short.

The rain had all eased off by the time of the race and runners were pleased to receive their technical running t-shirt at the finish. Many also received spot prizes. A big thanks to race sponsor Up & Running. Burnden thank chief race organiser Stew Jones for putting together such a well run event. We are especially grateful to the local Cadets who played a great role, turning up early in miserable weather to help marshal the course.

Central Lancs 5k

For info of athletes.

The weather looks as completely thawed for the weekend so CL5K race looks good to go. Approx 130 entries to-date so to help the organisers please get your entry in (www.ukresults.net) asap. It just saves hassle on the day. A bumper field of 300 expected. Memento's for the first 300 then it s a bun fight!!

If the first car park is full please also use the one next to the 5 a side pitches on the far side of the track BUT leave the car park actually behind and at the side of the football building as that the private car park for the footballers ( I will tape off the one you cant use). If the entrance to the park taped off it will mean the car parks are full. Toilets and showers available and a few lockers (£1 coin needed)

Please no ear phones in the race. It is a pure health and safety issue and may render you disqualified.

Enjoy the race and remember not to moan as just like you we don't like like it if something goes wrong, we don't get paid etc etc just a kind word in our ear and we will try and ensure we get it right or better next time, but what am I saying nothing will go wrong!!
