Swinton 10 by Steve Doxey
Just to remind everyone it is the Swinton 10mile race this coming Sunday.
In the past we have recommended that runners should not wear Ipods or MP3 players during the race. Due to an accident at the beginning of the year, a runner from Swinton, who had been to the club a few times got knocked down and killed on the East Lancs Road, whilst wearing a MP3 player. This brought home to us the fact that when out on the roads, everyone should be aware of what is going on around them, and if necessary be able to respond to marshals instructions.
Therefore for safety reasons, we will not be permitting the use of Ipods or MP3 players during the race. Anyone who is caught wearing an Ipod or MP3 player will have their name removed from the results.
I have also emailed this to other club secretaries as well, but if you could put it on the website I would be grateful.
Best Regards
Steve

It is with great sadness that I have to anounce the untimely death of Adrian Selby in his early 40's. Adrian ran for Horwich RMI and up until his recent illness was a regular competitor and winner of our events. He was well known to a lot of local runners and will be sadly missed. Our thoughts go out to his family, from everyone involved with the Central Lancs Grand Prix

Radcliffe 3 Day Challenge :"I Conquered the Challenge."
Radcliffe 3 Day Challenge :"I Conquered the Challenge."
14th July sees the start of the 2nd running of the challenge with the well established Bull Hill Fell Race of approx 5.5 miles, starting from the Wagon & Horses Pub in Hawkshaw, near Bury at 7.30pm (Allow 10 minutes warm up to get to the start)
15th July sees the "Summer Cross Country" race around the woods of Giant Seat Scout Camp, approx 5.0 miles, race HQ being at the camp site near to Ringley motors, Ringley Road, Radcliffe. Starting at 7.00pm. This is an undulating course of varying terrain
16th July sees the start of the "Woodcocks 5 mile Trail Race" around the trail, roads and canal paths of Radcliffe and Ringley. A mainly flat course similar to our 10k but without the diversions so none of the tough up and downs. The easiest of the 3 races by far and justifiably so after the 2 previous days (Allow 10 minutes warm up to get to the start)
Last year in its 1st year it was a great success, Ginny Willey (Middleton Harriers) and Rob Jackson (Horwich RMI) were 1st home over the 3 days.
On line entry to individual races or series at www.ukresults.net £10 affiliated & £16 unafiliated for series
Hope to see some familiar faces there.
All the best

Radcliffe 10k by Mark Emmet
On a day when heavy showers were expected the Radcliffe 10k was run in a variety of weather on a mild morning, the rain more or less holding off throughout the race. A field of 234 runners completed the second running of the new challenging course around the Nature trail, roads and paths of Ringley and along the canals of Radcliffe to finish on the "Nellie Halsted" track. The course was slightly longer than last year to get it as close to 10k as possible.
1st home was James Kevan of Horwich RMI in 34.30, followed by David Locket (V45) of Salford Harriers, Gareth Booth of Horwich RMI, Tom Carson (Junior Male) of Bolton United Harriers and in 5th place John Knowles of Burnden Road Runners.
1st lady home was Carly Needham of Rochdale Harriers in 38.23, followed by Joanna Goorney (L40) of Wesham Road Runners, Maria Lowe of Astley & Tylesley R.C., Kirsty Preece of Burnden Road Runners and 5th lady being Josie Maley of Astley & Tyldesley R.C.
There were plenty of CLGP runners in attendance with tremendous support at the end of the race as runners waited for their team mates to come in and had the opportunity to enjoy the refreshments provided by Asda, Radcliffe, who had seven unaffiliated runners competing for the "Tickled Pink" charity.
A good number of vets competed with probably the best performance of the day coming from John Riley of Northern Vets who finished the race in a credible 49.33 and 103rd place. At the other end of the age scale Tom Carson finishing in 4th place in 35.52 was a great piece of running for a Junior man.
Team prizes went to Astley & Tyldesley for the ladies and Horwich for the men.
On behalf of all at Radcliffe AC, I hope you had an enjoyable race which will be held again next year, you support of our race was greatly appreciated.
